For crankers already comfortable making a basic sock, this class expands your understanding of heel construction and gives you greater control over fit, durability, and style. We begin with variants on the short row heel, then move to the Creelman heel — structurally similar to Cat Bordhi’s Sweet Tomato heel. We finish with the handknitter’s flap heel adapted for the sock machine — we’ll suspend active needles inside the cylinder, then return their stitches to working needles at just the right moment!

Circular sock machine in working order with cylinder, needles, oil, floor mat, and supporting tools. We won’t be using a ribber for this project. Cylinder suitable for your yarn, typically 60, 64, or 72 slot cylinders are best with sock yarns. Your accessories: weights, heel hooks, latch hook tool (a spare needle will do the job), needle lifter (old credit card can stand in), oil. Waste yarn (best if it’s obviously different from the sock yarn), 4 ounces of sock yarn for the socks. Have yarn prepared for cranking (on cones unless you have a different system). You will need a stand for your machine – contact [email protected] for ideas if you don’t have a stand already.

Admission tickets – including the Wool on Wheels busses – are transferable but not refundable. Lambtown Festival will be held rain or shine.
Workshops can be cancelled with at least four weeks’ notice for a full store credit if you set up an account in our system, or a refund minus 15% cancellation fee. At any time, students may find a replacement to take their space – email [email protected] to let us know the name and email of the person taking your place.
Merchandise purchased through this website is custom made for each order. As such, no cancellations or refunds are available. If you are unhappy with the quality of the print, please contact Printful customer service for a replacement.
Camping fees are not refundable. Lambtown Festival will be held rain or shine.
