Have you ever wanted to dye your own gradient yarn? Here is your chance to dye TWO of them using sock blanks. In this class we will hand paint two blanks and explore the different ratios needed when dyeing for different types of projects (ex. socks/sleeves vs. shawls) and different types of gradients (shifting from color to color vs. a light to dark ombre). We will go over how to mix dye colors and blend them on the yarn to shift seamlessly between hues and shades, heat setting and troubleshooting.

Note: All classrooms are on the Dixon May Fairgrounds, 655 S 1st St, Dixon, CA, and students will get free admission on the day of their workshop(s).

beyond the basics of acid dyeing by eva szabo on sunday

Instructor: Eva Szabo

Eva began her dye journey as the perfect storm of liking nice things, being on a budget, and a lifelong love of DIY projects. Combining her love of science and lab equipment with her growing dye knowledge, Eva discovered a love of creating color for people who, like her, are afraid of wearing color. With the help of her children (affectionately known as the Seismic Yarn Dye Interns), she explored the world of neon and black light/UV reactive colors. Despite this fun with neons, Eva’s heart lies in the moodier, broodier section of the color wheel and she refuses to give up her rich semi-solid, tonal, and low contrast variegated colorways.
