Home Alone with a Fleece with Judith MacKenzie

Workshop Description: If this is your first fleece, you have come to the right place! The Lambtown Festival wool show is a great resource for a first (or second, third…) time fleece buyer. Not only do you have an amazing variety of fleeces to choose from, you also can see a wide variety of sheep breeds, talk to their owners and visit with spinners! In this workshop we’ll look at how to find the right fleece for that dream yarn you have in your mind’s eye. We’ll look at a variety of fleeces, learn about the different wool types and what is their best use. We’ll look at what makes a fleece great and what you should be wary about. We’ll look at what to do with your fleece when you have it home. How to sort, how to wash and how to store.

Experience Level: no experience necessary

Students Will Learn: how to choose, sort, wash, and store a fleece

Students Should Have: No tools or equipment needed

Workshop Cost:

Pay What You Can: $25, $34, or $50. It’s been a tough year financially for all of us, and we really wish that we could offer these workshops for free. However, it’s also been a tough year for instructors who make their living by traveling the world to teach. This year’s workshop pricing is a three-tier PWYC, or Pay What You Can. This pricing model allows us to set a modest break-even point and to split the profits with the instructors beyond that. In honor of this being the 34th annual Lambtown Festival, the default price for each workshop is $34. The additional tiers are $50 and $25; we hope that those of you who can afford to pay more will do so, and that offering a lower tier makes Lambtown Festival Workshops more affordable and inclusive in this difficult year. *Please note: We will not disclose which tier any student chooses and all students will be treated equally by Lambtown Festival and our instructors.

Workshop Details:

This workshop will be pre-recorded and students can attend a live watch party with Judith on Saturday, September 26th, starting at 3pm Pacific. The workshop video will be available for students to re-watch at their convenience through the end of the year, with the opportunity to watch multiple times as you work through the techniques or simply soak up the expert advice. Students will get a chance to ask the instructor questions during a live watch party the weekend before Lambtown Festival, or by emailing questions to be incorporated into a FAQ sent to all students after the festival ends.

Registered students will receive a link to the watch party and the workshop video closer to the event date, and are asked to respect the instructor's work by not sharing their login credentials to allow friends to access the video.
